ARTIST STATEMENT - syuQ tOne
My creative process is about connecting to my soul, my spirit, and God. My paintings are created by my intuitive responses while engaged with the work. What emerges on the canvas is an internal language that is highly personal, yet at the same time universal. It speaks of places unseen, but at the same time comforting and familiar.
My abstract paintings are interpretations of what i see around me and what i have seen other places. I often combine several mediums, including acrylic, charcoal, graphite, Indian ink and work on canvas or paper.
The paintings are constructed in an intuitive manner in the tradition of post-modern expressionism. I start by introducing color, shapes, line and respond to their development. Constantly moving things around by rearranging, adding and subtracting.
The painting comes together after many layers have been placed on the support. The work pushes and pulls itself to completion. The textured, layered, ambiguous forms of the artwork produces an image that appears to have been uncovered, discovered at an archaeological site.
