Hailing originally from the Maritimes, my art practice is based in the Ottawa/Gatineau region. I studied Fine Arts at the Ottawa School of Art, specializing in drawing and painting and received my BA in Art History and English literature from Carleton University. I work for a public gallery in Ottawa and I am currently an instructor for the Ottawa School of Art’s diploma program. My work has been exhibited in several group and solo exhibitions and my paintings can be found in private collections in Canada and the United States.
Focusing exclusively on the materiality of the process, my abstract paintings in acrylic inks and medium are indicative of the chaotic nature of the medium itself. I begin my pieces by splattering ink and water on the canvas to break the sanctity of the white surface. I then paint reactively to the images as they emerge, adding, subtracting and manipulating the inks, but allowing the different substances and gravity to blend organically. The final pieces have ethereal ephemeral elements evocative of myth, magic, and nature.
