Tristan Rain

E N G L I S H ___ Tristan Rain is a swiss artist. He was born in Switzerland (1972) and lives in Paris and Berlin and works regularily in Stockholm. Painting and Photography. The incomplete, fragmentary, discontinuous vision of human perception is in the center of his work. Tristan Rain works in cycles - often diptychs and triptychs. His work goes beyond the traditional separation between figurative and abstract. It's about perception. The photographic work examines the characteristics, possibilities and limitations of analogue and digital photography. The camera often moves during the process, or is situated in front of a mirror or a glass. Different views of common objects or historic places are condensed and concentrated. The process of enlargement, the overlays, the projections, the extreme compression of multiple digital files across various media formats - all contribute to the impression that the photographic image dissolving. The viewer's eye tries to recognize things, to detect and interpret them... and finally discovers what was already there. Tristan Rain realized exhibitions in Europe, Asia, North- and South-America. His most recent exhibitions took place in the following institutions : Novembre à Vitry, Parcours d'Artistes in Pontault-Combault, Réalités Nouvelles in Paris, Contemporary Art Museum in Beijing, Salon d'automne Tel Aviv, St.-Petersburg Exhibition Center of the Arts, Moscow Palace of Arts, Museum of the Americas in Miami. F R A N C A I S ___ Tristan Rain (né en 1972 à Liestal/Bâle, Suisse) est un peintre et photographe suisse. Il vit depuis 1995 à Paris et travaille depuis 2000 régulièrement à Berlin et à Stockholm. Il est diplômé de l’École d'Arts appliqués de Bâle (peinture, photographie, histoire de l'art) et diplômé en architecture. Il enseigne à l'Ecole d'Art Maryse Eloy à Paris, à la Cinémathèque française, ainsi qu'au Consérvatoire du Cinéma à Paris. L'oeuvre picturale de Tristan Rain nait sous des contraintes: gamme de couleur extrêmement limitée, formats étroits, compositions déclinées en polyptyques, décentralisation du sujet, décomposition de l'espace et du temps. C'est un travail sur la perception incomplète de l'homme et sur la durée du regard. Ses œuvres sont dominés par un travail sur le fragmentaire et sont influencés par l'archéologie, des voyages historiques d'exploration et l'urbanisme. Il a récemment exposé au Novembre à Vitry, au Parcours d'Artistes de Pontault-Combault, aux Réalités Nouvelles à Paris, au Contemporary Art Museum à Pékin, au Salon d'automne de Tel Aviv, au St.-Petersburg Exhibition Center of the Arts, au Moscow Palace of Arts, au Museum of the Americas à Miami et dans divers galeries et espaces d'art contemporain.
