This piece was commissioned by the Igor Stravinsky Foundation in 2013 to celebrate the centenary of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring.
The bottom of the painting is monochrome in greys and black with a cracking effect to symbolize the hard, cold ground of a Russian winter.
The dancers have been positioned to form the shape of a seedling, that goes through the ordeal of pushing through the hard frozen earth in Spring. The women's pose also symbolizes a sacrifice or offering of life for Spring to begin.
