Beautiful imperfection

Beautiful imperfections is another idea for a series by Steph Fonteyn, however the paintings never made It to the gallery as they were snapped up by collectors during an open studio visit. The idea was about painting oxymorons that at the same time told stories that empower women. My photographer and model were both inspired and touched by the stories behind the painting ideas that they immediately connected with it . The model generously and vulnerably revealed her beautiful imperfection, a large bumpy raised mole in the centre of her back. The same kind i had removed as a teenager from under my armpit as i felt too shy to dance with arms In the air during those awkward years. This painting confronts the pressures that society pushes on our perception, definition and acceptance of beauty and its beautiful imperfections. It gets even better, as the buyer of this painting turned out to be a dermatologist!
