Andanzas VIII

This painting is about the ascension of humanity to the light, or higher states of consciousness. It is part of the series of Walking Figures. Walking for me is a metaphor for the journey of life. My figures are walking in the light and towards the light, which is both our essence and destiny. Motion and emotion are intrinsic qualities I look for in the painting. The canvas is richly painted in many layers creating a sensual texture that invites a tactile response. To me drawing is the foundation of all great painting and here I am painting in black and white, following the rigorous discipline that drawing demands, but carrying it to painting.
