The concept behind the artistic project "Biomes(s)" is based on the notion of biome, classified within Ecology as the largest geographic biotic unit. The development of this concept implies the research of four main biome types: Desert, Savanna, Forest, and Tundra. In order to highlight the importance of certain small species that are not well known by the general public, four representative species of arthropods with a particular importance in maintaining the balance within the specific biome’s ecosystems have been selected.
Having this information in mind, the main structure of each work - representing the body of one arthropod - is reproduced on a large scale and composed of a multitude of structures, shapes and patterns belonging to certain species specific to the same biome. The majority of them are living in the same ecosystems and interacting at different levels, like having Trophic relationships. Many of these species are also on IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
So, the drawings represent a visual metaphor of the concept of Unity in Diversity within the living world, highlighting the importance of balance inside the biomes of our planet.
