Agnes

This painting is one from a series of three small studies in female portraiture, trying to show women at leisure, at their moment of quiet reverie. Not strictly portraits in a traditional sense, the paintings’ fictional models are inspired by the people I meet, who caught my attention through their personal style, body language and elegance. The women are seemingly lost of though and oblivious to being observed - there is an air of untroubled waiting about them that gives them a sense of poise, whether it is playful, tranquil or thoughtful. Like all of my works, the paintings are made on a heavy-duty natural canvas that I stretch and triple-prime myself, to achieve the highest quality of surface. Working exclusively with oil paints I use my own signature technique of colour contrasts to create this glowing and atmospheric effect.
