Saint George -“Icons in Romanian clothes”
(~275/280-303), celebrated on the 23rd of April.
A megalomartyr Saint who, although he followed the hierarchy in the Roman army (under Diocletian), he has not disowned in any way the Christian faith.
Legend has it that he killed a dragon to save a virgin. The icon pictures the fight in a living dynamic: He, standing up in his saddle, pushed in the stirrups with tight reins, and the horse is almost out of the frame, the mane and tail in the wind, and you almost can hear the sound of the bells! Everything happens behind a country fence.
