‘Anthroposcene’
Mixed media on wood panel
Anthorpo (human) scene, referring to the activities of man on nature. For instance deforestation, trees are being chopped down at an alarming rate without any secondary thought. Destroying the landscape, natural habitats and disturbing the ecological equilibrium.
The earth green and magnificent jungles are being replaced by the man-made concrete jungle. The freedom of forms and shaped that we used to see in nature, is being replaced by a more geometrical and rigid one.
Artwork
I was inspired from aerial photography of landscape. After mere observation, you can see green space gradually being eaten by the cubic and geometric shaped. (Houses and Roads). Experimental painting on wood panel obtained from scrap.
Techniques
Acrylic painting combined with marine wood varnish and brown tint pigment. Some motifs were included using spray paint on stencil. Dead and dry branches were glued to the surface to symbolise the gradual death of trees. E.g. in Mauritius the endemic forest has been replaced by sugarcane fields and now being replaced by housing and buildings gradually.
